The article has discussed twelve myths about Social Media Privacy. There are “people have privacy rights against social media companies”, “people own personal data about themselves”, “European privacy laws are better, and the United State has to catch up”, “Social media companies threaten person’s privacy”, “Advertisers threaten your privacy”, “Law enforcement should be kept out of social media in the interest of better privacy protection”, “Technologies threaten your privacy”, “You have a right to be forgotten”, “You have a right to remain anonymous on the internet”, “ Social, networks are not- but should be -subject to laws”, “Social media usage isn’t, can’t be, or shouldn’t be regulated by employers” and “consumers care about privacy”.
I do not agree with Myth 2. It said that the social media may have personal data about users, because the information post on social media is not personal secrets. Everything happens in personal account is privacy. Any action to your privacy should get a permission from you. If the social media company collect or trade your any information, it will be illegal.
I do not agree with the myth 7 “Technologies threaten your privacy”. The technologies only serve for the user. If the user steal privacy，the technology will be harmful. The same way, we also have the high technoloygy to protect our privacy. The technology just a tool, it is good or bad is depend on its user.
- I agree with the Myth 4 “ Social media companies threaten people’s privacy”. Any mistake or system may leakage user’s privacy. The privacy law is strict, many internet companies was charged for privacy problem. The information sharing is the biggest effect on privacy.
- I agree with the Myth 5 “Advertisers threaten your privacy”. Nowdays the media website collects the user’s interest by collect their watching history. Then analyze the data and show the advertiser about their interest. This is a heavily privacy crime.
In my opinion, the issue of digital privacy will get better and better. Because the privacy law is going to be comprehensive。 The big number of charge and more and more details in the rule clean all the law bugs. Many privacy protect product is going to come. Whatever the law or protect software, both of the aspects make our privacy to be safety.
