- “The one who walk away from Omelas” is a story of city Omelas. Omelas is a great city. The citizens are fall in happy every day. There is no crime, violence, lie or any unsustainable development. People do not have any annoyance or any conflict of interest. The great building and a prefect science and technology using. The citizen looks like have perfect morality. In fact, they have done a horrible crime. A feeble kid is imprisoned in dirty and dark room. The feeble kid did not do any crime, but he or she have to be imprisoned for the city flourishing. Any sympathy to this feeble kid is not allowed, because that will break down the city’s peace and happiness.
- The author gives readers a free space to give the rein to one’s imagination. Such as the author did not tell the reason to explain the feeble kid how to affect the city. And where the people go after they leave Omelas. This is all his style. That make a chance to me and my friend to discuss about the details, ending and the implied meaning.
- The story rises a serious question that is to sacrifice a few people for completing the benefits of the most of peoples. Such as a six slices pizza to share with seven people. Should we just wipe of one person to ensure the rest of people will get a whole slice.
- The people who leave was showing an ethical behavior. They do not want to get happiness base on a kid’s tragedy. The people who stay was showing an immorality idea. They thought the feeble kid cannot get back, the kid will be numb，and unaffectionate in his/her whole life. The kid is hopeless, they think they should take the value of the kid’s tragedy.
- If I am one of citizen, I will leave. The kid also has human right. Nobady can deprived of his/her freedom. The city’s development should base on human’s working not a kid’s tragedy.
- The stay means the people who accept the technology. They think that they may get benefits from the technology. So they learn and use it. The leaving means the people keep the old method. They against the technology. They are used to do old methods or they cannot get benefits from technology. Such as some craftsman. The high technology may instead of them. That break their benefits.
